Digital music service Rdio has appointed Weber Shandwick Canada its agency of record.

Weber Shandwick will oversee PR and marketing communications initiatives in Canada for the company, which launched two years ago and allows people to search for and play music from a selection of more than 15 million songs. Users can also share their digital music collection via Facebook and Twitter.

Interpublic Group-owned Weber Shandwick will provide integrated communications efforts, including national brand and media partnerships, as well as event sponsorships. As communications AOR, it will also run programs to expose Rdio’s API and developer resources to the tech, developer and entrepreneur sectors.

Commenting on the appointment in a release, Rdio Canada’s Rachel Noonan, who works in the company’s marketing and PR department, praised Weber Shandwick’s deep understanding of new communication platforms and history in media relations and strategic thinking.

Other Weber Shandwick offices, including ones in the U.S., Germany and Great Britain, already work on the Rdio account.

Based in San Francisco, Rdio was founded by Skype co-founder Janus Friis.
