Halifax area agency Revolve has hired Bruce Whelan, formerly of Cossette East, to the newly-created position of co-creative director.

Whelan leaves his creative director post at Cossette to join Matthew Allen at the helm of Revolve’s creative team. Whelan’s industry experience also includes a stint at Extreme Group, where his work for the Nova Scotia Workers Compensation Board won a Cannes Lion.

Nelson Angel, vice-president and managing partner at Revolve, said Whelan was hired after a year-long search that included candidates from Toronto, Europe and the U.S.

Angel, who worked with Whelan at Extreme, said his new co-creative director’s skills are a good complement for Allen’s, which grew from a design and art direction background.

“We have a lot of young writers here on staff, so one of the key focal points for us in this search was to find a creative director who had a writing background.

“Matthew does such a great job managing relationships with clients, and I think Bruce is going to bring another level of higher-minded creative thinking.”

Whelan, who started in his new role Monday, becomes Revolve’s 50th employee.
