Xtreme Labs, a mobile development shop based in Toronto that lists Facebook, Twitter and Air Miles as clients has been acquired by an American company.
Pivotal, a San Mateo, Calif.-based company that provides data infrastructure software, announced the acquisition Wednesday. Financial terms of the all-cash transaction were not disclosed, though the technology news site All Things Digital reported Pivotal paid $65 million. A representative for Xtreme Labs was unable to confirm the figure.
Xtreme Labs’ sought-after skills in mobile development will flesh out Pivotal’s software development offering. In a statement Pivotal CEO Paul Maritz said, “Every enterprise today has to exploit the opportunities offered by mobile. This requires new ways of thinking and working, and the need to get it right the first time and every time. We’re thrilled to bring next-generation mobile capabilities to our customers.”
Xtreme Labs co-founder Amar Varma added his team shares Pivotal’s “belief the convergence of mobile, social, big data and cloud is driving extraordinary change.”
“By joining forces with Pivotal, we can bring our strong heritage, that of helping the world’s most important companies succeed in mobile, to help an even greater number of companies to win in a new era,” he said.
Founded in 2007, Xtreme Labs landed big name web clients like Dictionary.com and Urbanspoon early on and has since grown from just a handful of employees to more than 300, picking up huge clients across categories including Mercedes-Benz, Reuters, Corus, CTV, Vevo, Telus and CIBC.
