Toronto agency Zulu Alpha Kilo has bolstered its creative team with new hires and an internal promotion.
The hires include multiple award-winning writer Shane Ogilvie, who joins Zulu as creative director. Zulu president and executive creative director Zak Mroueh said he began searching for a CD with a writing background in October, meeting with “a lot of different people” before finally settling on Ogilvie.
“The thing I loved about Shane is that he’s done some great work in the past, he’s a very entrepreneurial guy and he’s really good at motivating younger creative people,” said Mroueh.
Ogilvie comes to the agency from DDB Toronto, where he was an associate creative director responsible for developing integrated campaigns for clients including Capital One, the Canadian Cancer Society, Unilever and Subaru. He also garnered U.S. experience while working at DDB Dallas with clients such as Anheuser Busch.
Zulu has also promoted associate creative director Mark Francolini to CD. Mroueh lauded Francolini, who has been with Zulu since it first opened in July 2008, as an “amazing creative guy and true craftsman.” His work has been featured in Communication Arts, The One Show, Clios, Obies and the London International Awards.
Also joining the agency is senior art director Allan Mah, who earned renown for his role in the “Start the car!” spot for the IKEA Winter Sale. The spot has been picked up in 12 countries since it first debuted. Mah’s work has also won at Cannes, Communication Arts, The One Show and other local awards shows.
“For me it’s always about making the team as strong as possible,” said Mroueh. “This is one of the best groups we’ve ever had at the agency. It’s only getting stronger.” All three men will report to Mroueh, who told Marketing that the agency is still seeking a creative director with a design background.
