Basic Funerals and Cremation Choices, a Mississauga, Ont.-based discount funeral company, is in the midst of an outdoor campaign in the greater Toronto area that touts its affordable and unique solutions.
Launched in 2009, BasicFunerals.ca allows families to make funeral arrangements online, over the phone or in person, and recently introduced live online chats with funeral directors for free, seven days a week.
To promote its service and drive people online, the company launched transit ads and a billboard execution on the CBS network that puts BasicFunerals.ca front and centre.
“It’s a very antiquated industry,” said Dominic Mazzone, chairman of Basic Funerals. “Funerals are obviously something that are sad, but we’re providing such a great service at an affordable price we feel we need to get our message out there.”
While traditional funeral homes can charge upwards of $10,000, Basic Funeral offers services for as little as $1,800.
Though the campaign only launched at the start of January, Eric Vandermeersch, the company’s CEO, said the company has seen a 30%-40% uptick in phone call inquires.
The effort will run over the next three months. Basic Funerals handled the media buy.
