Hootsuite, other tech companies may head for IPO
A suite of Canadian companies are headed for initial public offerings according to John Ruffalo of OMERS Ventures, which has dumped millions into companies like Hootsuite and Shopify. Ruffalo claims Hootsuite, Desire2Learn and Vision Critical will all go public “within two years.” According to Bloomberg, $400 million will be raised in Canada through technology IPOs this year.

MeowMix launches “Catstarter”
Move over Kickstarter – Catstarter is here. MeowMix has launched a tongue-in-cheek digital initiative asking inventors to submit cat-related projects to be funded, a la Kickstarter. A sample: How about a remote controlled toy mouse that mimics the movement of your computer cursor? So you can play with your cat when you’re busy. Genius.

Brick-and-mortar battle heats up for tech companies
It’s being reported that Google may be looking for a location in New York for its first standalone retail outlet. According to a real estate broker in the city, the tech powerhouse has been scouting spots in the Soho area in Manhattan. As Google gets further into the wearable, laptop and smartphone game, it’s understandable that it would need a brick-and-mortar store. The twist to this story? One of the places it’s supposedly eyeing is a stone’s throw from Apple’s first New York store.
