Kickstarter backers riled by Oculus acquisition
With more than 9,000 backers on Kickstarter raising more than $2.4 million in just over a month, the VR contraption maker had a lot of support from game makers and tech junkies. But with yesterday’s announcement that the company accepted a gajillion-dollar buy-out from Facebook, many of those 9,000 independent spirits took issue. “Glad you guys were able to sell out with a product build on our money” seems to be a common opinion.

It’s time to take wearable tech to the next level
“Moov, a cylindrical disc about the size of an Oreo cookie, uses an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer to pinpoint your exact movements. For an activity like running, it can track your cadence, stride, and the impact force of each step, as well as make sure you’re balancing evenly on your feet.” Moov is just one of several companies looking to jump the bar set by successful industry builders like Nike and FitBit.

Who fixes the fixers?
Canadian Tire is looking to its tool, paint and sports aisles – it’s “fixing” business – in the next phase of its retail tweaking. “It is not growing as fast as the rest of Canadian Tire,” according to president Michael Medline. But compared to the auto business realignment (which took around five years to complete), Medline expects this phase to be a bit cheaper.
