It’s the season of lists. Amid the sea of “best of,” “worst dressed” and “Christmas gifts to return” lists, here’s one for you tech folks: a list of seven innovative Canadian startups to keep an eye on this year. From a twist on a touchscreen keyboard to wearable wristbands (especially timely given all the buzz around wearable tech at this week’s CES), it’s a noteworthy compilation from the Financial Post.

Shop H&M’s Super Bowl ad with your remote
For its 2014 Super Bowl Ad, H&M created a shoppable spot that allows consumers to purchase a pair of its David Beckham brand underwear. Using their remote, consumers with a Samsung smart TV can purchase the underwear via a pop-up menu. According to Advertising Age, the menu appears within the broadcast screen and will also be available for viewers watching the game on DVR.

Rap Genius back in Google’s good graces
The website Rap Genius, which provides annotated lyrics for rap songs, published a blog post Monday stating that it’s search ranking has been at least partially restored by Google after the search giant pulled the site from its listings for breaking its SEO guidelines. In the blog the site’s founders wrote, “We owe a big thanks to Google for being fair and transparent and allowing us back onto their results pages. We overstepped, and we deserved to get smacked.”

Google brings Android to cars
Google has partnered with Audi, GM, Honda, Hyundai and chip maker Nvidia to form the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA) to bring Android operating phones and apps to car dashboards. The announcement was made Monday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The first cars using Android – the world’s most popular operating system for tablets and smartphones – are expected to hit streets later this year.
