• Why did Verizon pass Canada by? Well, its onslaught may have been overblown (Lowell McAdam, its CEO, did use the words “way overblown”). But Jesse Brown writes that we have more than our fair share of issues (law suits and the many conflicting messages from unions, government and telcos) keeping prospective international players from coming ashore. • Canadians mostly feel like they get enough vacation time, though we don’t all take all the time we’re owed. Profit reports on Forum Poll’s latest research that shows “two thirds of Canadians agree the amount of vacation time they are given or give themselves is sufficient (63%), and most agree “strongly” (38%). ” [Profit.ca]
• New TV tech means those gorgeous, high-definintion screens we’re dreaming of getting will be able to discern what we’re watching by analysing pixel composition. Who gets to see that data? Marketers, probably. [AdAge.com]
• Facebook is allowing people to post animated GIFs now. But before Kellogg’s tries to claim those adorable Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal things, they should know that there are serious legal ramifications for marketers using other people’s IPs. [AdWeek.com]
• Mobilicity is trying to move its 200,000 subscribers to Wind by the end of the month. Mobilicity likely won’t get any money in the deal, and probably just wants out of the market as fast as possible. [FinancialPost.ca]
• Canada can’t compete? The World Economic Forum ranks us 14th behind Germany, Singapore, Finland, the U.S… We have areas of strength, according to the report it released Wednesday, but we’re just not living up to expectations. [TheGlobeAndMail.com]
