Best Buy Canada proves it’s not so hard being green.
The home electronics retailer is supporting Earth Day 2008 by allowing customers to trade in old TVs, laptops and MP3 players for special discounts, including $75 off a flat-panel TV 40” or larger, $100 off a Toshiba laptop and $80 off a 32 GB iPod Touch.
Best Buy wanted to acknowledge Earth Day in a way that focused on categories that are most relevant to its customers with TVs, laptops and iPods, said Loveena Chera, director of marketing for Best Buy Canada.
“Something like this is really important for our brand because one of the things we’re really committed to is community, and one of the things that we know is really important to our customers is the environment,” she said.
Best Buy is providing the recycling venue for consumers who are unaware of how to recycle electronic items and to make the process easier for them, she said.
Best Buy Canada also has a free ongoing recycling service for items like batteries, ink cartridges, CDs, DVD and CD players. Customers can drop off these items at stores across Canada.
The program is being promoted with in-store signage, corporate flyers and the microsite BestBuy.ca/earthday. The program launched Friday and will run until Thursday.
