The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) named Britco Structures its builder of choice for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

B.C.-based Britco will be responsible for building and designing the Whistler Athletes’ Centre—a 100-room lodge and a 20-unit townhouse complex. This will be home for athletes competing in events held at Whistler Olympic Park, The Whistler Sliding Centre and Whistler Creekside. The company will also supply temporary accommodations for as many as 690 team officials staying in the village.

“We are pleased to have Britco on our team to provide a key element in the athlete experience in 2010 and to incorporate their innovative and quality design into the Village, which will be an important legacy for athlete training after the Games,” said John Furlong, VANOC’s chief executive officer, in a release.

In addition, Britco joined the list of VANOC sponsors as an official supplier of modular structures products and services for the 2010 Winter Games. This financial contribution also provides Britco with the sponsorship rights for the Canadian Olympic teams participating at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, the 2010 Winter Games and London 2012.

The contract is worth an estimated $32 million and will provide upwards of 200,000 labour hours of work for Britco employees.
