Canada Post has made its personalized stamp service available on mobile apps, and expects a certain royal wedding to drive interest in the program.
First made available on its website, CanadaPost.ca, the personalized stamp tool allows users to upload photos that will be turned into standard postage stamps. The service is now available across Apple, Android and BlackBerry mobile products thanks to apps developed by Canada Post’s internal team.
“It’s always a goal to increase letter mail, but also offer Canadians a way to personalize their wedding or baby shower invitations,” said Anick Losier, director of media relations at Canada Post.
The apps will be promoted through media outreach, “a little bit” of advertising and prominent placement on the organization’s website, which is currently enjoying a boost in traffic thanks to commemorative royal wedding stamps depicting Prince William and Kate Middleton. “Capture your moment on a postage stamp – just like Prince William and Kate!” said copy on the site.
More than 3 million copies of the royal stamps were sold in the first 10 days of their run. They stand to outpace Canada Post’s current best-selling stamp, which shows an Olympic gold medal, which sold all of its 5 million available copies during and after the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
“We had over 100,000 [royal] stamps sold before the official unveiling, before anyone knew what they looked like,” Losier said.
All promotion of the royal stamps will also include mention of the personalized stamp service.
