Chrysler is telling some Jeep dealers around Toledo, Ohio, not to tinker with the automaker’s slogan “Imported from Detroit.”

One dealership planned to sell a T-shirt proclaiming “Imported from Toledo,” while two others had those words written on a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that was driven out on the ice during a Toledo Walleye hockey game last weekend.

Toledo in northwest Ohio is home to a Chrysler Group LLC assembly plant that produces the Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicle.

Chrysler spokesman Michael Palese tells The Blade newspaper of Toledo that the automaker appreciates the dealers’ enthusiasm but does not want to dilute the “Imported from Detroit” tag line.

Under an agreement with Chrysler, the dealership that printed up 600 “Imported from Toledo” shirts is now giving them away.
