Sony is asking consumers to create their ultimate VAIO notebook as part of its “This VAIO is me” contest.
Starting Oct. 1, Canadians can go online to SonyStyle.ca and upload their personalized design for Sony VAIO laptops.
“We’re trying to engage consumers and allow them to be creative,” said Puneet Jain, the director of marketing for Sony Canada. The contest also gives Sony a chance to see what kind of designs customers find appealing. “That will help us design down the road,” said Jain.
Personalization has always been an important part of Sony’s marketing for VAIO, he said.
It started by offering consumers colour options, and then last year the brand created an online program that allows users to custom build their own notebook to order.
“People are looking for fashion statement products that match their lifestyle,” added Robert Yu, manager of e-commerce for SonyStyle.ca. Sony also wanted the contest to reflect the brand’s focus on personality and the choice it offers consumers. “We wanted to take the concept of user-driven content to a whole new level.”
Beginning Nov. 16, users can go online and vote for their favourite design. The winner will receive a $5,000 trip for two and a limited edition version of the VAIO they designed.
Sony also plans to manufacture a limited run of 100 VAIO notebooks made from the winning design. The winner will be announced online through a joint venture with the Toronto Star website, TheStar.com and on SonyStyle.ca Jan. 30.
