Ours is an industry alive with creativity. It is the lifeblood of what we do and a necessary precondition for success. The natural corollary is that the industry attracts amazing creative talents. We all know this, but also take it for granted. And what we forget is that many of these people don’t turn their creativity off when they leave the office, choosing instead to spend their time on amazing creative pursuits that they may not always talk about and therefore most of us don’t know about.
That is why Marketing decided to create the first annual Great Canadian Creative Faceoff. We thought it would be fun–and insightful–to spend some time this summer and early fall looking for the industry’s most overall creative Canadian, as voted by our readers.
This is a search for the cream of Canada’s creative crop, from across all sectors of our industry–agency, marketer, media, PR. We’re talking about writers and copywriters, designers, directors, editors, publishers, etc. (who may also, in their spare time, be first-rate musicians, painters, sculptors, dancers, actors and poets).
Maybe you are an account manager who can write better scripts than the ones being cranked out by the studios year after year. Or maybe you know a brilliant junior creative who can’t catch the eye of his or her busy chief creative officer. Or are you a client tired of the creatives at your agency dismissing your right-brained contributions? We want to hear from you.
The first step is to fill in the very short nomination form below. Tell us in 200 words why either yourself or someone you know who works in marketing/advertising/media/PR deserves to be cited as our industry’s most creative Canadian for 2009. Naturally, professional accomplishments are essential, but equally important is what the nominee does away from the office. You can attach or send us any supporting material to make your case.
Based on all the nominations received, the top 25 will be selected by Marketing’s writers and editors, then posted and profiled on marketingmag.ca. From there we turn it over to you. Through the month of September we’ll be asking you to vote for your favourite. At month’s end we will, based on the voting results, narrow the list to 10 semi-finalists. Then, we’ll ask you to vote again, reducing the list to the top five finalists at the end of October.
The top five will be invited to a special brunch in Toronto on Friday, November 13 (the day after our second annual Marketing Week ends). At that brunch, we’ll reveal the name of the top vote-getter.
Tickets for the event will go on sale in early autumn, providing everyone the chance to spend some quality time with not just the victor, but also the four other creative superstars.
