The James Lee Foundation, created last year in honour of the late copywriter James Lee, is accepting submissions until Sept. 15 for its inaugural scholarship award.

The $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to the portfolio that demonstrates the most creativity, original thinking and craftsmanship. The award is open to writers, art directors, filmmakers, recording artists, illustrators, photographers and digital artists.

Portfolio submissions can be made online at JamesLeeFoundation.com.

Submissions will be judged by a panel of representatives from the foundation’s five founding agencies: Grip Limited, Lowe Roche, Rethink, TBWAVancouver and DDB Canada, the last of which is where Lee worked as an associate creative director at its Vancouver office.

The winner will be announced in November at the 2008 Lotus Awards in Vancouver.

Lee began his career at Roche Macaulay & Partners, before joining DDB Canada in 1997. His work won numerous awards including seven Lions at Cannes. Lee died of heart failure on May 6, 2007 at the age of 37.
