FloorsPlus launches Facebook contest

Atlantic Canadian flooring company FloorsPlus has launched a Facebook-hosted contest in an effort to boost its social media profile.

Atlantic Canadian flooring company FloorsPlus has launched a Facebook-hosted contest in an effort to boost its social media profile.

The company’s “Walk All Over Us” promotion is accessible through its Facebook page. Visitors to the page can click on the contest icon to watch a video of a flooring expert named “Owen.” Users are then invited to command Owen to perform an activity, specifying the action by filling in two text fields.

Each time a visitor issues instructions, they are immediately alerted as to whether they have won a $100 FloorsPlus gift card, one of which will be awarded for each of the 30 days of the contest. Users are then directed to enter their e-mail address to become eligible for a random draw to win the grand prize – a $3,000 floor installation courtesy of FloorsPlus.

The contest, which is open only to residents of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia – the two  provinces where FloorsPlus operates – was developed with the assistance of Halifax agency Trampoline Branding.

FloorPlus “had very few ‘likes’ on Facebook, so they were feeling like they were not reaching the potential online that they could,” said Brad Dykema, creative director at Trampoline. “They wanted to generate some excitement online while at the same time living up to their brand.”

Dykema said the FloorPlus brand positioning was based on strong service, hence the creation of Owen, a character that is responsive to customer suggestions.

To promote the contest, Trampoline designed 15-second television spots and radio ads, both of which direct consumers to the FloorsPlus contest page on Facebook. All creative is English-only.

The contest began earlier this week and continues until June 7.
