PayPal tests facial verification payments in Great Britain
Twelve merchants in London, U.K. are testing a new mobile payment program by PayPal that allows consumers to check-in to locations, make purchases and then verify them with a cashier who receives a notification and picture of the consumer on their own phone. By the end of the year, PayPal plans to extend the pilot program to more than 2,000 businesses.

A new study shows mobile web use doubled in the United Kingdom between 2010 and 2013. Now 53% of U.K. residents use the web via a smartphone, according to the Ofcom study.

Mobile donations boom in Egypt during Ramadan
Egyptian consumers donated almost half a million dollars to charity using their phones this year during Ramadan, a 462% increase over 2012. In total, more than a quarter-million consumers made mobile donations, raising $484,702 (USD) for charities like Children’s Cancer Hospital and the Egyptian Food Bank.
