The Globe and Mail is bringing the Olympics to its on-the-go readers through a partnership with mobile content provider Viigo.

The newspaper is providing BlackBerry and Windows Mobile smartphone users with free, ad-supported downloads of mobile, interactive and real-time news from the Beijing Summer Olympics, including scores, standings and results from the competitions, plus a mobile version of the national newspaper and its associated websites.

“This initiative serves to further the Globe and Mail’s commitment to combine the best journalism with innovation and convenience,” said Roger Dunbar, VP, digital media and business development of the Globe and Mail, in a release.

And, for the second year in a row, the newspaper is giving Canadians the chance to walk the red carpet at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

Contestants have until Aug. 30 to answer festival trivia online at theglobeandmail.com/redcarpet/. Entries are limited to one e-mail address per day.

The winner receives a “Behind the Scenes at TIFF Prize Package” that includes a round trip for two to Toronto, three nights at the Sutton Place Hotel, two tickets to the closing cocktail party, the opportunity to walk on the red carpet at the closing night film, TIFF merchandise and $1,000 in spending money.

Print, online and street marketing activities support the contest.
