Grape Growers of Ontario (GGO) has chosen Toronto’s Agency59 to build its brand through social media and industry communications.

Agency59 was one of three agencies the organization approached. According to Debbie Zimmerman, the grower group’s CEO, Agency 59’s experience in the agricultural sector–including its “Who made your eggs today” campaign on behalf of Egg Farmers Ontario–was an important factor in its selection.

“We looked at agencies not just in Ontario, but outside of Ontario,” said Zimmerman, who added that Agency59 displayed strong metrics from the Egg Farmers campaign and received positive buzz from within the agricultural sector

Agency59’s primary focus will be social media, a channel in which GGO has mostly avoided until now.

“We’re grappling with how to begin that process,” she said. “This is all new to us, in the sense that we’re embarking on change, and that change is dramatic and reflective of the culture of the way in which people obtain information today.

Zimmerman hopes to launch new work in April.

Al Scornaienchi, president and CEO of Agency59, said he is eager to tap into the local food movement. “It’s a wonderful story to tell that the great Ontario wines are using grapes that are grown right here.”

Agency59 will also provide intra-industry communications support to GGO, which represents more than 500 growers in Ontario.

GGO is the second significant win for Agency59 in recent weeks. It recently brought home the Gay Lea account.
