Canadian domain registrar Hover has tapped into some Canadiana with a new TV spot that prompts people to sign up for a “.ca” web domain.
Hover recently rolled out its first TV commercial—a way to explore traditional marketing after previously relying on podcast advertising. The 30-second spot, which is running nationwide, references some stereotypically Canadian creatures to increase Hover’s .ca domain sales and traffic to its website
The spot features simple text on a red background and audio of a loon call. It delivers the message that if you’re looking to reach Canadians on the internet, you need a .ca domain. It directs viewers to Hover.ca.
The concept for the “.ca Domains” commercial was created in-house and produced by Toronto’s The Public Assembly.
Alex Franceschini, marketing coordinator for Hover, said the awareness campaign is aimed at a wide variety of Canadians – essentially anyone that would benefit from having their own domain, from bloggers to designers to businesses.
“We want to make the internet accessible to everyone and anyone—that’s the whole idea behind [parent company] Tucows and Hover,” said Franceschini.
The ad will run until the end of March. The media buy was handled internally.
