In the age of the viral brand tweet, many marketers now make a point of responding in real time to the latest trends on social media, often in hopes of turning out the next Oreo Super Bowl blackout post, or the DiGiorno Pizza “Sound of Music Live” tweet series.
The latest social brand bandwagon comes in the form of #FiveWordsToRuinADate, a now globally popular hashtag that demands a bit of wit in no more or less than five words. Some have become a bit repetitive, with brands simply using “I do not like” and inserting their product into the fifth word spot (see below for a couple of examples).
However, others have managed to make us crack a smile. Marketing has collected some of the tweets sent out by Canadian brands (or Canadian subsidiaries) getting in on the fun, with some even taking it as an opportunity to poke fun at their competitors.
