IKEA Canada has named Cossette’s Rocket XL as its social media agency of record, moving this portion of the business from Crispin Porter + Bogusky Canada without a review.

The home furnishings retailer first became acquainted with Rocket XL through meetings with its sister agency (and IKEA’s media AOR), Jungle Media , said Hilary Lloyd, deputy marketing manager, IKEA Canada.

“[Rocket XL is] a company that is specifically dedicated to this particular space so they bring a specific level of expertise to us that can really help us,” said Lloyd. “They bring a very fresh focused level of expertise to social media so we knew they’d be right for us and our brand.”

CP+B Canada will retain its creative AOR status with IKEA. The agency introduced IKEA to the social media space last August, with a Twitter account (@IKEA_Canada) and a Facebook page as part of a larger campaign that marked the arrival of IKEA’s 2011 catalogue.

“We have a really committed and enthusiastic base with customers who are engaged with the brand,” said Lloyd. “They’re already having conversations about us so what’s really important in working with Rocket and using that brand equity is that we join those conversations.”

IKEA also plans to enter the mobile space in the near future with an application that allows consumers to peruse the catalogue on iPhones and iPads.

“We’re ecstatic about working with such a world class global brand–IKEA packs the personality that translates extremely well in social media,” said Rocket XL Canada’s vice-president Ian Barr, in a release.

Since its Canadian launch in 2009, Rocket XL has been named social media AOR for Samsung Canada and the NHL, and has added numerous Cadbury and P&G brands to its client roster.
