Burger King Corp. has hired Jason Keown as senior director of marketing in Canada, effective immediately.

Keown will lead a team of eight out of the Toronto office, overseeing all marketing programs for the fast food chain’s more than 300 Canadian locations.

Keown said he gained valuable experience with other quick-service clients like McDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell while working at agencies like Palmer Jarvis, Cossette Communications and Young & Rubicam.

“His ability to build successful programs will help develop a marketing line-up that will resonate with our franchisee community, our guests and, ultimately, drive results for the Burger King system,” said Robert Levite, Burger King Corp.’s vice-president, field marketing North America, in a release.

Keown joins Burger King from Rogers Communications’ cable division, where he served as director of communications for five years. He replaces Leslie Wood, who has joined Winners/Home Sense.
