For Koodo, a simple thank you won’t do.

In a new Facebook campaign, the youthful brand is thanking Canadians with its signature quirky style. A Facebook app called Grande Gracias features Koodo’s tiny Mexican wrestling mascot, El Tabador, who is sending fans personalized thank-you messages.

The idea was born from a survey that showed Canadians recommend Koodo above all other mobile phone companies in the country. (According to Koodo, an independent polling firm was hired to conduct a survey representative of the Canadian population and all Canadian mobile phone providers.)

“The best way for us to say ’thank you’ is through a creative, engaging and fun application utilizing the beloved El Tabador who has warmed his way into the hearts of many Canadians,” said Nathan Roth, digital marketing manager at Koodo, in a release.

Fans can visit the Koodo Facebook page and select the Grande Gracias tab to receive their special thanks. Users are greeted by a short video starring El Tabador, who has been feverishly autographing his own celebrity headshots. Each photo is personally addressed on one of 10 El Tabador photographs along with a humorous message. (For example, “Hola Kim. I don’t know what to write. Done!”)

The signed headshots can be shared online and downloaded for printing. Fans can also view an app gallery to view all of the headshots El Tabador has been signing.

Koodo worked with Taxi to develop the app, and PR is being handled by Strategic Objectives.
