Torontonians will be finding ways to remove clutter from their homes and lives as part of an upcoming yoga and feng shui event to be held by Leon’s Furniture.
The “find your zen” event takes place June 27 at the Leon’s Roundhouse location in downtown Toronto near the Rogers Centre.
It includes three free one-hour yoga classes that people can sign up for on Leon’s Facebook page, and feng shui consultations to offer shoppers home décor and decluttering advice.
The event aims to increase awareness about the store, which sells a lot of small furniture specifically designed for condos, which is ideal for the condo market nearby, says Andrea Graham, who heads marketing at Leon’s Furniture in her position as brand poobah.
“The store isn’t well-known,” she says. “Some of the research coming up finds there’s a lack of awareness — some people think it’s a museum, not a store, because it doesn’t look like your typical Leon’s store.”
Leon’s has previously had tie-ins with its Roundhouse store and the HGTV show The Expandables, which aims at finding solutions for homeowners with tight spaces.
Leon’s public relations firm Strategic Objectives came up with the idea for the June 27 event.
“Our core target is busy moms,” says Graham, who joined Leon’s last fall. “We thought ‘we understand these people and their headspace. Why don’t we treat them to a morning of finding their zen – with free yoga mats, fresh-pressed juice and three popular yoga instructors?’ It’s a nice natural fit.”
Graham scoffs at the notion that the decluttering aspect of the event runs counter to selling furniture. The minimalist look “resonates more with millennials,” she says, and “even if you only have a few items in a room you still need furniture.”
The “find your zen” event is being promoted mostly through public relations and social media.
