Molson has added a new member to its executive group, naming Scott Cooper to the post ofvice-president, brand marketing, Canadian and innovation.

Cooper will be responsible for the Canadian brand and oversee marketing innovation for the entire company. He will also focus on developing a plan to court and retain junior and mid-level employees for the brewery’s marketing team.

Cooper will report to Molson president and CEO Kevin Boyce, while the group overseen by Canadian brand director Michael Shekter will report to Cooper.

Cooper most recently served as vice-president of marketing and innovation for Sobeys, and has also worked in senior roles at companies such as Unilever and Cadbury.

According to Boyce, Cooper’s depth and breadth of experience make him well-suited to handle his broad range of responsibilities at Molson.

“He’s got great interpersonal skills, a great marketing background and also a sales background, so he brings a lot of things to the table,” said Boyce. “He’s got a very capable Canadian team working underneath him, and we think he’ll be able to add to that.

“Innovation is something that I think we’re going to get better at—it’s something that we’ve put a lot of emphasis on in recent years but we want to do more of it. And we think he’ll add to that, as well as the whole idea of being the employer of choice for people looking for a career in marketing in Canada.”
