Moosehead has launched MooseheadBeerAcademy.com, a blog for customers, employees and beer industry folks to grow their understanding of beer.

Written by Moosehead employees, the blog will include posts on beer-making processes, food pairings and the company’s storied history. It will also feature a reader-submitted Q&A section and how-to videos, such as pouring the perfect beer and cleaning draught lines.

“There’s been an explosion in terms of people’s interest in beer, and so this is just another vehicle for us to communicate our passion for beer,” said Andrew Oland, president and CEO of Moosehead.

While Oland said the main goal is to have a two-way dialogue with consumers, “this will also be an opportunity for our employees to become more educated about beer and communicate their enthusiasm for beer.”

Moosehead will promote the site through its Facebook page and Twitter account, and has also created a Twitter handle for the Beer Academy, @MHBeerAcademy.

Based in Saint John, N.B., Moosehead is Canada’s oldest independent brewery. It was founded in 1867 by Susannah Oland and is still operated by the Oland family, now in its six generation of ownership.

Here’s an example of one of Moosehead’s first Beer Academy blog posts, a video how-to for the perfect pour.
