Nova Scotia’s department of economic and rural development and tourism has launched a 3D cinema spot in Toronto theatres.

The advertisement, which launched this week and runs in front of 3D movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Kung Fu Panda, shows several aerial shots from along the Nova Scotia coastline. It concludes with the tagline, “Shaped by the sea.”

The spot was created by Halifax agency Colour and filmed by Arcadia Entertainment, a Halifax-based production company that will use some of the same footage in its upcoming travel documentary, titled Over the Edge, for the EQHD channel.

“We were looking for a catchy way to promote our coastline, because obviously that’s one of our biggest draws,” said Nancy MacIsaac, marketing manager for Nova Scotia tourism. “There’s no more beautiful way to see Nova Scotia than from the air, and with 3D we get to share with people what we see ourselves.”

The 3D cinema spot supports an Ontario campaign that began earlier this year and includes television and print creative.

“Ontario is one of our biggest Canadian markets next to the Atlantic Canadian market itself,” said MacIsaac. “This year we focused on Toronto quite extensively.”

Larry MacEachern, managing partner at Colour, said the 3D spot gives viewers a more immediate sense of Nova Scotia’s natural landmarks.

“We were able to bring the landscape alive, and it’s breathtaking to view it,” said MacEachern. “To actually have that feeling that you’re there is a pretty amazing thing.”

The spot runs in Toronto theatres until July 7, and can also be found at NovaScotia.com.
