Virgin Mobile Canada has selected Joseph Ottorino as its new managing director.

Prior to joining Virgin, Ottorino spent three years as director of advertising, web and social media at Bell.

At Virgin, Ottorino will lead the brand team and has been tasked with running Virgin’s “Re Generation” initiative, which supports homeless and at-risk youth in Canada.

He replaced Andrew Bridge who has gone on to work as CMO at his own startup, BrandProject LP.

Ottorino has been in various marketing roles at mobile brands for more than ten years. He started as a brand manager at Telus in 2003 and was later promoted to director of marketing and communications. He also did a stint as director of customer communications at Wind in 2009.

Before moving to the client side of the business, Ottorino worked as an account director at Taxi.

“Through my positions at Wind, Telus and, most recently, Bell I have learned how telcomms work and how they stay healthy,” Ottorino said. ” I also have experience launching and fostering bold brands. I launched both MINI and Viagra in Canada [at Taxi] at the same time- so you could say I know my way around a brand, big or small.”

“I am keen to bring what I’ve learned to my position at Virgin Mobile and work with the brand team to shake things up.”
