From pizza-scented perfume to experiments in crust stuffing, Pizza Hut tries to keep consumers intrigued with whacky gimmicks. Their latest effort – a love-song serenade written for the food chain’s Facebook fans – is no exception.
“Lovers,” a two-minute ditty that celebrates North America’s love of diverse pizza toppings, will drop on Valentine’s Day as a free download.
Beverley D’Cruz, marketing director at Pizza Hut, said the song, which is “based on pizza love,” will first be revealed line-by-line throughout the day on Facebook to build anticipation for the MP3’s release.
Fans will be encouraged to record music videos based on the song and submit them to Pizza Hut. D’Cruz said they’d consider using them to produce a future project.
Much like Pizza Hut’s recent perfume giveaway, “Lovers” is meant to thank the brand’s fans for their loyalty. D’Cruz said the song is a fun and quirky way to do that. “Music is a fun space,” she said. “It’s a fun territory to play in.”
The lyrics were written by Grip Limited and the song was recorded by Pirate Toronto.
D’Cruz said that if the song goes as viral as she hopes, Pizza Hut will release 100 physical copies to lucky Facebook fans.
