Reebok’s got game. The sports apparel brand has teamed-up with toymaker Hasbro Inc. to create a Monopoly-inspired footwear collection.

Monopoly money, dice, tokens, cards, houses and hotels all inspired the details for the laces, prints, colours and overall look of the shoes, according to a Reebok statement.

The line is meant to generate buzz among footwear fans and shoe collectors; it’s not necessarily a line for everyone, said Jessica Starkey, public relations for Reebok, in Montreal.

Reebok will support the shoe line with in-store promotions and point-of-purchase materials, produced in house.

The first wave of the line will debut in Canada next month for a suggested retail price of $99.99. A second collection is scheduled to launch in November.

The first launch coincides with the release of Hasbro’s Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition.

“The game of Monopoly transcends all age groups, and we are excited to join with Reebok to create a footwear collection that will do the same,” said Bryony Bouyer, senior vice-president of licensing at Hasbro, in a statement.

The line will be available at independent retailers across the country and at the Reebok concept store in Montreal.
