Saks Food Hall opens at Sherway Gardens Mall

Pusateri's high-end offerings will include a champagne and prosciutto bar
Gourmet grocer Pusateri’s Fine Foods is looking to revive the food hall concept with this week’s opening of Saks Food Hall by Pusateri’s at Sherway Gardens Mall in Mississauga, Ont.The 18,500-sq.-ft. space features culinary stations, exclusive products and a deluxe grocery assortment. Its opening will be followed by the opening of a 25,000-sq.-ft. Saks Food Hall by Pusateri’s in Toronto’s Eaton Centre later this spring.

The food hall concept has long been popular in European department stores, which traditionally sell fresh foods, such as pastries, prepared meats and cheeses, as well as HMR and high-end packaged goods. They also usually house a café or restaurant — sometimes both.

Puasteri’s food hall aims to deliver on all fronts.

The store hosts ten culinary stations including a Nutella Café, sushi bar, café and a cold-pressed juice bar. It also features a wide variety of gourmet grab-and-go prepared food options for shoppers.

A champagne and raw bar boasts top-shelf champagne, artisanal red and white wines, and craft beer alongside cheese and charcuterie platters, as well as rotating tapas menus.

A prosciutto bar showcases a collection of charcuterie from Niagara, Falls-Ont.-based Pingue Prosciutto, while a spatchcock rotisserie procured in France will offer varieties of Ontario chicken.
