Sandra Sanderson is leaving her position as senior vice-president of marketing at Shoppers Drug Mart to join Walmart Canada.

Marketing has learned that Sanderson will join the big box chain on Sept. 3 as executive vice-president of marketing, a role left vacant by Emma Fox, who returned home to the U.K. to work with British car parts retailer Halfords.

In a statement to Marketing, Walmart Canada said, “Sandra’s broad experience and strong leadership will be an asset to Walmart as we continue to deliver on our commitment to save Canadians money so they can live better.”

Sanderson was with Shoppers Drug Mart for five years. She recently led a brand campaign for the chain’s in-store Beauty Boutique and last year spearheaded the retailer’s 50th anniversary campaign – the biggest in the company’s history in terms of size and contest giveaways.

Prior to Shoppers Drug Mart, Sanderson held senior level positions with Danier Leather, NBC Universal and Canada Post.

Tammy Smitham, a spokesperson for Shopper’s Drug Mart, said an internal and external search for Sanderson’s replacement is underway. Chong Bang, SVP merchandising, is filling the position in the interim.

Shoppers Drug Mart was recently acquired by Loblaw Companies Ltd.
