Shoppers Drug Mart needs a new boss

Shoppers Drug Mart Corp. said Wednesday that president and chief executive Jurgen Schreiber is quitting the company.

Shoppers Drug Mart Corp. said Wednesday that president and chief executive Jurgen Schreiber is quitting the company.

The drug store chain said Schreiber, who will also leave the company’s board, was resigning “to pursue a private equity opportunity outside of North America.”

Schreiber’s resignation will be effective Feb. 15.

Shoppers chairman David Williams will serve as interim president and chief executive until a replacement is named.

Schreiber joined Shoppers as president and chief operating officer in August 2006 and became chief executive in March 2007.

Shoppers has more than 1,181 Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix stores across Canada.
