Simon Fraser University has launched its new vision – one it hopes will set it apart as Canada’s most “engaged university.”
The campaign from Vancouver’s Karo Group includes transit, radio, social media and online elements. Print ads running in the Vancouver Sun, Business in Vancouver, SFU’s The Peak publication and various Vancouver-area community newspapers have different takes on the theme of engaging students, the community and research – all on a bold red background.
The vision comes after more than a year of researching the views of students, staff, faculty and the wider SFU community, said Anne Farrer, vice-president and managing director at Karo.
One ad entitled “Engaging Communities: SFU campuses redefine the heart of a community” shows the iconic Woodward’s site in Vancouver’s downtown eastside where opening an SFU campus has led to a revitalization of the area.
Online ads feature students and faculty such as Professor Gail Anderson, who uses forensic entomology to assist in homicide cases across North America.
“This vision seeks to distinguish SFU as a university that not only nurtures knowledge and promotes basic research, but also tackles social and economic issues, provides students with life skills and civic understanding and contributes to the well-being of the communities it serves,” said Andrew Petter, SFU president.
