To help introduce Canadians to the Blu-ray format this holiday season, Warner Home Entertainment has teamed with Sony Canada for a national mall tour to demonstrate the disc player’s picture and sound quality.
Developed and implemented by Toronto event marketing company Boom Marketing, the tour enables customers in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Montreal to see the difference between the Blu-ray format and a regular DVD in booths equipped with two Sony TV screens placed side-by-side. The TVs will be screening the latest Batman movie, Dark Knight, which won’t be released to the public until Dec. 9. The tour runs until Dec. 31.
“Many Canadians have not had the opportunity to see the Blu-ray Disc differenceand you really have to see it to believe it,” said John Grant, managing director, Warner Home Entertainment, in a release. “Once they see and hear the difference in quality they understand that if you want to enjoy your favorite titles to their fullest, they need to watch them on Blu-ray.”

Last February, HD-DVD creator Toshiba Corp. effectively ended the format war, conceding to the rival Blu-ray format developed by Sony.
“Blu-ray technology allows movies to be heard with the same quality as is heard in the theatre,” added Dyan Eaton, manager of publicity for Warner Home Entertainment, in the release.
