Sportsnet unveils World Cup of Hockey sponsor roster

Activations for international hockey tournament span TV, digital and print

Rogers-owned Sportsnet has announced its sponsor roster for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, a group comprised of Scotiabank, Molson Coors, Advil, Honda, Sonnet, Visa and Sport Chek.

Scotiabank’s involvement with the international hockey tournament, which runs from Sept. 17 to Oct. 1, includes sponsorship of Facebook live streams on Sportsnet’s fan page, title sponsorship of game broadcasts on Sportsnet 590 The FAN, plus sponsorship of Sportsnet Magazine’s World Cup of Hockey preview issue.

Molson Coors will be the presenting sponsor of the “Three Stars” feature during game broadcasts on TV, radio and digital, while Advil’s cross-platform sponsorship includes a “Play of the Game” feature appearing both online and on TV.

Honda is the official vehicle sponsor of the World Cup of Hockey and has partnered with Sportsnet as a media partner. Rogers, the official telecommunications partner, will be the official second period sponsor for every game broadcast.

Insurance firm Sonnet will present a feature called “Reasons for Optimism” during the pre-game show, while Visa will enjoy what Sportsnet describes as a “significant cross-platform” presence that includes its role as presenting sponsor of the World Cup in 30 recaps airing throughout the tournament.

Finally, Sport Chek will amplify its #WhatItTakes platform with content-driven activations, including pre-game broadcast segments from its store at Maple Leaf Square.

The two-week tournament, a joint effort between the NHL and the NHL Players Association in co-operation with the International Ice Hockey Federation, is returning after a 12-year absence.

Marketing and MarketingMag.ca is also owned by Rogers.
