For the last decade, the Canadian marketing community has been used to writing “Digital Day” into their calendars in the fall. In 2015, Marketing and the Canadian Marketing Association decided to give their conference a refresh, partly in response to a speaker stating that digital was “dead” during the kickoff of last year’s conference.
We found parallels between the digital age and the spiritual realm, with an increasing number of brands appointing “Chief Belief Officers” and “Digital Prophets” to their leadership teams, and the extent to which some consumers worship the tech brands they use. (These days, declaring your love for Apple or Android can be a facet of your identity.) We even had some fun thinking about “conversion rates” and the Silicon Valley headquarters in Mountain View, California (Chapel on a Hill, anyone?) in a new light.
With this new focus, Marketing and the CMA curated a group of speakers for Digital Religion to evangelize technology that could be used by brands and marketers – be it virtual reality, biometric identification or the use of WiFi and Bluetooth – while others provided a big picture look at the Canadian marketing community’s use of digital technology, and the type of consumer brands are trying to reach in 2015 and beyond.
This video presents some of the best quotes we got from speakers on the day of the conference, and the type of content we plan on delivering at Digital Religion for years to come. We hope to see you in 2016.
