Toshiba Canada has launched a social media contest that will award Toshiba prizes to three winners and $10,000 worth of technology products to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.

The “Holiday Heroes” campaign, designed with the help of Toronto agency Capital C, launched earlier this month and hinges on a Facebook contest. Consumers are invited to nominate someone who has served as a “hero” in their lives by submitting a photo and story about their nominee to Toshiba’s Canadian Facebook page.

On Nov. 28, the company will announce the top 30 entrants as chosen by a Toshiba panel. The three winning nominees will then be selected by Facebook voting, which will take place between Dec. 5 and Dec. 19. The winning heroes each receive Toshiba prize packs, while their nominators receive a Toshiba Thrive tablet.

Toshiba has also pledged to donate $1 worth of its technology products to The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada for each vote cast in the contest, up to a maximum total of $10,000.

Sherry Lyons, director of marketing communications for Toshiba of Canada, said the company was interested in developing a seasonally appropriate program that would benefit the brand, its customers and a worthy charity.

“It makes sense for the Toshiba brand and for the time period. It’s a gift-giving time period, but it’s also a time when we think about all the things people do in our lives,” said Lyons. “There is also the element where we’re educating people about Toshiba products and helping them to select the right gifts for their loved ones.”

The winners of the Holiday Heroes contest will be announced Dec. 21.
