Visa Canada has been named an official partner and payment card of the NHL and NHLPA in Canada.

Visa will connect with Canadian hockey fans nationwide and develop hockey-themed experiences for Visa cardholders, which the company will announce at a later date, said Brenda Woods, head of marketing, Visa Canada.

“Visa is a card that so many Canadians have and I think we’re brands that reflect the interest and the passions of our mutual cardholders and fans,” she said.

The NHLPA and NHL partnership, which ends June 30, 2011, is a way for Visa to create cardholder opportunities or compliment those of its financial institution clients, said Woods.

“The NHL is thrilled to align with Visa, one of the most powerful brands in financial services,” said Laurel Walzak, director of business development for the NHL, in a release. “We see many synergies with Visa as we…serve NHL fans with unique, exciting experiences.”

In addition to its global sponsorships of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and FIFA, Visa also supports Canadian Team Visa athletes and is the title sponsor of Canada’s national men’s and women’s bobsleigh and skeleton teams.
