ParticipAction is bringing back Sports Day in Canada for a second year, backed by sponsorships from Visa, the National Post and Sports Canada.

The not-for-profit ParticipAction will conduct the event Sept. 17 in hopes of getting more Canadians embracing physical activity. According to the organization, only 15% of Canadian adults get their weekly recommended physical activity and only 7% of children between 5-17 get their 60 minutes a day of activity.

Visa will send athletes it sponsors for the Olympics and Paralympic Games to take part in some of the more than 1,000 events nationwide.

“From Visa’s perspective, involving our Team Visa athletes was a natural fit, and given our long term commitment to and support of sport, we’re excited to participate in this event that will encourage Canadians to get active and enjoy sport,” said Carla Hindman, corporate and public affairs at Visa.

Visa will run ads on the Sports Day website along with collateral at the events. The National Post will get exclusive coverage and news on the events as well.

CBC will be broadcasting the six-hour event on TV and stream it online. The broadcast will showcase rugby’s Colonial Cup, five-pin bowling, football, competitive and recreational gymnastics, among other events.
