Several Canadian consumers are a few hundred dollars richer thanks to a promotion by Discovery Canada.
To promote its new TV series Gold Rush, the channel altered ATMs in various locations and secretly filmed the reaction of consumers as the machines suddenly started spitting out bill after bill as soon as they put their banking card in.
The stunt is in the same vein as one pulled by Publicis Montreal and Ubisoft in July, in which the agency “hacked” an ATM to spit out $5 bills into a Mississauga mall to promote the video game Watch Dogs.
