A recent commercial from the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure is being used to build awareness of a new website that offers the public up-to-date information about infrastructure developments in their local area.

The Ontario.ca/BuildingToday site provides information on new buildings and roads going up in individual communities in the province.

The 30-second TV spot that directs viewers to the site was created by Rain 43. It started its broadcast run in mid-February and will air until mid-March.

The spot is also being used in online pre-roll and banners. Zenith handled the media buy.

Andrea Arbuthnot, acting spokesperson for the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure, told Marketing that the province has invested more than $85 billion in public infrastructure since 2003. The Ministry released its 10-year “Long-Term Infrastructure Plan” in 2011 that distinguishes important investment priorities. Dubbed “Building Together,” several projects that stemmed from the plan were recently finished or are underway.

The Ontario.ca/BuildingToday site is a hub for the latest updates on the projects, since, as Arbuthnot said, “there was no easy way for Ontarians to find out about recent, local infrastructure projects that are impacting their daily lives.”

The site allows users to search by region, postal code and category, and also features an interactive map for checking out projects. There are currently more than 1,200 completed or nearly completed projects in the database, including everything from highways and bridges to schools, hospitals and community centres.
