While Thursday marked Day Five of the International Festival of Creativity here in Cannes, it was also Day One for the Innovation Lions.
The day started with the release of the shortlist for the first ever Creative Data Lions, and on that list is J. Walter Thompson Toronto for “Raise the Pride.”
The work was a Twitter powered Pride flag that flew over downtown Toronto during last year’s World Pride event in the city. Sentiment analysis was used to move the flag up its pole (for good tweets) and down (for bad tweets), giving an at-a-glance reference for the current tone of social conversations around LGBT issues.
In total, there were 619 submissions to the new competition and 11 of those were from Canada.
Judges for the Creative Data Lions are being asked to look for work where data is “at the core of the idea, allowing brands to tell better stories and drive personal, relevant and meaningful engagement.”
David Sable, global chief executive officer of Y&R, is serving as the president of the jury.
The smaller festival-within-a-festival includes the Innovation Lions awards, which will be handed out at a new awards show Friday night, as well as 120 speakers and 60 start-up presenters spread across the two days of the event.
