Two Canadian submissions could win a Lion in new Entertainment competition

PRESENTED_BY_AOLTwo Canadian agencies each earned a nomination in the newly minted Entertainment Lions competition, part of a new two-day event at the International Festival of Creativity.

The Entertainment Lions replace the Branded Content & Entertainment competition and will be presented with the new Entertainment Lions for Music during their own awards show in Cannes Friday night.

Smokebomb Entertainment Toronto earns a nod in the Online: Fiction series category for Carmilla, a YouTube series that followed a university co-ed and her vampire dorm mate for Kimberly-Clark’s feminine care brand U By Kotex.

Meanwhile, DDB Vancouver made the shortlist in the Excellence in Production & Distribution Strategy category for “Snack Time,” an animated series for Milk West. Wave Productions Vancouver and Yeti Farm Creative Kelowna are listed as production partners. It also made the Film shortlist, which announced Thursday morning.

Though they won’t go down as Canadian wins, Sid Lee’s Paris office was shortlisted for PageJaunes’ “Made by Professionals” campaign, while Canada Goose picked up yet another nomination for “Out There.”

“Out There,” the brand’s first global effort that included a five-minute short directed by Oscar winning director Paul Haggis, picked up gold in Design and silver in Cyber.

Entries in the category increased this year over last from 1,394 entries in Branded Content & Entertainment to 1,843.
