AOL Canada is restructuring its sales leadership team to better reflect the company’s changing revenue model. The new team will consist of three roles that oversee revenues from advertising sales, agency deals and publisher partnerships, respectively.
Dana Toering, formerly head of sales and business development, will become head of partner revenue and development, and focus on building supply-side partnerships for the company. Toering will be responsible for managing relationships with publishers on AOL’s Advertising.com network and Marketplace ad exchange, as well as creating and maintaining custom partnerships with technology providers like Apple, Microsoft and Google.
Toering’s newly created position is intended to reflect the growing importance of the publisher and partner revenue channels. AOL receives a fraction of transactions that take place on its network and exchanges, which have come to play a significant role in its business. AOL Canada general manager Joe Strolz estimates that the publisher side of the business could grow to $200 million this year.
Taking over the advertiser-facing side of the business from Toering will be Susan Byng. As the new head of advertising revenue, she will lead account executive and sales specialist teams to service advertiser and agency partners. Byng is a relatively recent hire, having left a position at Microsoft Advertising in December 2013. In her initial role at AOL as head of specialist sales, Byng handled custom programmatic and premium sales with major customers.
Rounding out the operation, Vivian Ip will remain in her role as head of agency development, where she is responsible for signing and maintaining upfront deals with media agencies. Upfront selling has become a major focus for AOL since it established its programmatic upfront last fall.
The three sales executives will report to Strolz. No executives left the company as a result of the restructuring.
