Argyle Public Relationships has named David Gourlay as vice-president, public affairs, in Ottawa and Terri McBay as vice-president, digital communications, in Toronto.
Gourlay was previously the director, public sector (Canada) for Citibank in Ottawa, since 2010. He also spent a decade as a political advisor and public servant in the federal government and an advisor to the mayor of Ottawa.
Gourlay will lead the firm’s Ottawa office and serve as the lead advisor to clients with public sector interests.
McBay was executive director of social media at OgilvyOne for nearly six years and developed social strategy for clients such as Unilever, IBM and Tim Hortons. Prior to that, she was a management supervisor and account supervisor at OgilvyOne.
“The Argyle brand promise is about strengthening our clients’ relationships, reputations and brands with all their publics – from public sector decision-makers to empowered consumers making decisions online,” said Daniel Tisch, Argyle’s president and CEO, in a statement. “We’re excited to invest in digital communications and public affairs, two of the fastest-growing segments of Argyle’s business.”
Argyle says the hirings occurred before the agency won the Facebook account late last year, but they will be very valuable in serving its new client.
Such a fascinating company to watch. They definitely were part of the push for me starting my own agency (www.clickshift.ca) Cleary a calculated move to hire based on these guys network. What they lack in agility they more than make up for in scale and network. I think the challenge they will face moving forward will be potential market disruption from smaller more targeted firms.
