District M enters Toronto with new office and VP

Emil Torma will run Montreal-based digital media company's latest location

Montreal-based digital media company District M is expanding its Canadian operations with the opening of a Toronto office and the hiring of a vice president of programmatic solutions, Emil Torma, to run it.

District M chief executive office JF Cote called the move the “next logical step,” in the agency’s growth plan, three years after its launch.

“It’s time to have a bigger focus locally in Toronto,” says Cote. “We have existing clients there, who will get more local services. Plus, we’ll be able to talk to potential new clients and grow the business to the next stage.”

The new Toronto office, located on King Street West near Spadina Avenue, opened last week. Cote says he plans to have five employees in the space within six months, which is on top of the 40 employees currently working at its Montreal office.

Torma has more than 11 years of digital media operations experience, including ad tech roles at eyeReturn, QMI, Mediacom and Shaw Media.

He comes to District M from Shaw Media, where he contributed to the successful CPAX 2.0 reboot strategy and helped to drive programmatic revenue, District M said in a release.

Cote said Torma’s role will not only include managing the new Toronto office, but also all Canadian publisher partner operations.

“As someone who has always been passionate about technology and solutions driven analytical thinking, working with District M to help publishers drive incremental revenue is truly an exciting opportunity for me,” Torma said in a release.

Last fall, District M said it added header integration to its programmatic publisher platform, alongside other features to help publishers boost their ad performance.

Some of District M’s current clients include Chorus Entertainment, Rogers and Quebecor.
