Edelman is bringing on an executive with expertise not only in PR, but also the investment banking sector with the addition of Paul de la Plante to its team in Montreal.
The company said de la Plante, who previously spent three years with National Public Relations, will become vice-president, corporate, working with general manager Ève Laurier and others within Edelman’s Montreal office. At National, de la Plante worked primarily with senior-level decision-makers across a range of industries, though his background is in financial services. This includes stints at BMO Nesbitt and Levesque Beaubien (predecessor to National Bank Financial) over a 16-year period.
“Many Quebec-based organizations look instinctively to the United States for growth,” said de la Plante in a release, adding that a local presence in Montreal is a major differentiator. “A large part of our appeal is connecting to Edelman’s depth of talent and expertise across Canada, in the United States and globally.”
Just last month National lost another partner, John Crean, who moved over to strategic advisory firm Teneo Canada. At the same time, National has been investing in its own Montreal team by promoting members of its health-care practice. Edelman’s hiring of de la Plante, meanwhile, follows the recent change at its Canadian headquarters in Toronto where president Lisa Kimmel is now also CEO.
